When you order a lamp on prz.fr, it doesn't exist yet. That's the principle of the workshop: each piece is 3D printed on demand, in Anglet, French Basque Country. Here's what happens between your click and the package arriving at your home.
1. It all starts with a drawing
Each model — the Air inspired by a cloud, the Perl with its seashell texture, the Kova with its low curve — is born in CAD, computer-aided design. This is where the magic happens: the balance of the silhouette, the thickness of the walls that lets through just enough light, and the texture that will catch the eye once the lamp is lit. A model goes through dozens of prototypes before making it into the catalog.
2. A plant-based material: PLA
Our lamps are not made of petroleum-based plastic. They are printed in PLA, a bioplastic made from corn. It's a material derived from renewable resources, whose production emits less CO2 than classic plastics, and which is biodegradable under industrial conditions. PLA has another valuable quality for a light fixture: slightly translucent in light shades, it diffuses a soft, warm light without glare.
3. Printing, layer by layer
FDM 3D printing builds the object by depositing molten material layer by layer, over several hours. A lamp requires between several hours and a full day of printing depending on its size. These successive layers are not a defect to hide: they are what create the signature striated textures of our lamps, those fine lines that play with light and make each piece come alive. Adjusting the machines is a job in itself — temperature, speed, cooling — that I have learned to refine over the years, after working in the composite workshops of the Basque coast's surf industry.
4. Assembly, wiring, testing
Once the part is printed, everything is done by hand: socket assembly, wiring, switch installation, then systematic testing of each lamp before packaging. All our lamps are shipped ready to plug in, with a complimentary bulb, a transparent 1.8 m cable, and a switch.
5. Why manufacture on demand?
Because it's the most ecologically honest model. No stagnant stock, no overproduction, no unsold items: your lamp is put into production when you order it, and shipped within 1 to 2 days. This also allows us to offer so many colors — from sand to cobalt — without waste, and to accept custom requests.
